| Omar, Cong leadership made LC polls a prestige issue…..? | | Leaders 'burnt midnight oil' till late….to ensure success of coalition | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 2 : Has Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made Legislative Polls for just four seats a prestige issue for the government….? One is prompted to ask this question in the wake of unprecedented 'effort' Chief Minister himself along with his alliance partner Congress put into the campaign as also all aspects related to 'political paraphernalia' of the elections scheduled for tomorrow. Even as allegations of the coalition alliance partners violating code of conduct and misusing the official machinery while on campaigning spree were galore from various political parties, these went unnoticed and unattended from concerned quarters for all apparent reasons. As all is set for polling at various block levels across the state, both NC as well as Congress appear to be pretty confident about the success of all four candidates. That however depends on the mood of the voters and will be determined as and when results are declared. One actually wonders why and how the leadership of both the alliance parties is brimming with over confidence of success at this point of time, when a large chunk of Panches and Sarpanches have expressed anti government sentiment for all sound and valid reasons. How are the coalition allies so firm with the belief that all the four seats shall be won by NC and Congress candidates , two each in Kashmir and Jammu…? While there are loud and visible reasons for exuberating this confidence, the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah can not deny this fact that the entire political as well as administrative machinery remained engaged and worked overtime for preparedness of the polls for their own interests, not as a whole to facilitate the things for any other party. Apart from any thing else , from day one since the polls were announced, almost all the ministers from both the parties have been continuously touring the places. The touring and visits did not remain confined to open campaign programmes and rallies but more significantly to woo the voters and remain in touch with them in their respective areas. And even after the campaign has concluded most of the ministers, legislators and senior leaders on whom this great responsibility has been 'entrusted' are still camping in different areas where each one of them wield political influence on the Panchayat members. These ministers and legislators and even party functionaries from both NC and Congress are still 'burning midnight oil, as a last ditch effort all to ensure success of the coalition candidates for this has truly become a prestige issue for the government, the latter having itself over politicized these polls.
