Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Dec 2: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) is allegedly shielding engineering students accused of hacking computers containing data of Information Technology Department of the College of Engineering and Technology (COET).
Though the university had lodged a complaint with police, sources said that BGSBU administration has had a change of heart during the last few days. They, according to sources are preventing the police from laying hand on the culprits, who had hacked administrative and academic information of the university officials and other departments.
Interestingly, while the university authorities have lodged a written complaint with the police with regards to the incident, sources confirm that the officials are shielding the accused from punitive action.
Assuring that, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) may initiate strict disciplinary action including possible expulsion of five students of Engineering College who had allegedly hacked the data, senior officers of the university said that they did not want legal action against the guilty students as it would spoil their careers forever.
Police had questioned the involved student few days ago but no FIR has yet been lodged in the complaint. On being contacted, Prof. Asgar, Dean COET, said that about five students mysteriously entered the department and collected information regarding supplementary "question paper" set by teachers of IT department. "The students were identified by the teachers and data was found on their laptops on 25 of November," added Asgar.
Early Times has learnt reliably that the accused include R Khajuria, Shiv Gupta, WA Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed and AA Shah. University administration had constituted a committee comprising of four senior faculty members to investigate the entire incident and parents, including an Associate Professor of Hospital Administration at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), of these Students were also called to intimate them about the hacking incident by their wards, reports said.
Prof Asgar also said that action would be taken against these students after the committee's report while Mubassar Latifi, district SP said that police was informed by the University authorities and have been told to wait, till they do not complete enquiry. No FIR has been lodged against any student.
