12/2/2012 11:54:23 PM

JAMMU, Dec 2 : Border security Force (BSF) and the Indian army is bracing for the elaborate border winter management progamme to foil major intrusion bids from across the border.
During the winter when traditional infiltration routes are covered with thick blanket of snow along the Line of Control militant handlers shift militants in launch pads on the other side of the International Border to launch them inside the Indian territory.
It is generally noticed that Pakistani trained militants try to take advantage of foggy weather conditions and growth of elephant grass in the winter season before sneaking inside the border.Meanwhile, the Indian army is also maintaining a high alert along the LOC following recent skirmishes and repeated incidents of ceasefire violations. A senior BSF officer said, "we have finalised detailed winter border management programme to foil the infiltration bids from across the border". He said, We have also installed adequate number of surveillance devices to keep a vigil on the movement of the suspected infiltrators near the International border."
Official sources said earlier the BSF had conducted trials of certain sophisticated surveillance equipment capable of monitoring through the fog to keep a hawk's eye on the enemy including militants.
"Besides night vision devices and hand-held thermal imagers, the BSF now has some more sophisticated equipment to ensure effective surveillance during the winter".The sharp shooters are armed with new age rifle X 95 as the same is fitted with laser beams to pick the target in pitch dark conditions from close distance.
The BSF officer also confirmed that we have increased patrolling all along the IB and ambushes are being done in vulnerable stretches. On their part the state police have also alerted their nakas in the bordering areas to carry out routine frisking on rotational basis and increase checking across diffeent nakas, check points. The members of the village defence committees have also been roped in to help the local police at check points, police sources said.
