Srinagar, Dec 2 : More troubles are in store for the people of Kashmir valley, where the minimum will drop further though the weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours. Srinagar, Kokernag, Qazigund, Leh and Kargil recorded coldest night of the winter so far. A Met department spokesman said that weather will be mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. He said there would be no large change during the subsequent two days. However, he said, due to clear sky, the minimum will drop further in the valley. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, witnessed coldest night so far after the minimum dropped to minus 2.8 degree, two notches below normal. Met spokesman said the sky will remain mainly clear in the Srinagar where the minimum temperature will drop further and settle at minus 3 degree during the next 24 hours. However, the maximum temperature will be above normal. The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded minus 8.6 degree minimum temperature, about five notches below normal while at Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave, it was minus 6.6 degree, about three degree below normal. Qazigund, gate of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir also witnessed coldest night after the minimum dipped to minus 3.4 degree. Truckers were seen defreezing diesel in their trucks by heating oil tanks with the help of wood in the area this morning. Kokernag, a tourist resort also in south Kashmir recorded minus 1.6 degree minimum temperature, coldest of the winter so far. The border district of Kupwara also recorded coldest night of the season after the minimum dropped to minus 2.8 degree, about two degree below normal. People in Ladakh region continued to shiver as the minimum dropped further during the past 24 hours. Met spokesman said at Leh the minimum was minus 13.6 degree, coldest of the winter while at Kargil, a border town on the highway connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the country, recorded minus 8.6 degree against earlier coldest minus 7.4 degree. |
