Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 9: The PCC President,Saif-ud-Din Soz is said to have been told by the party high command to initiate measures that would narrow down the gap between the loyalists and the dissidents in the state unit of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
Party sources said that in the wake of fresh instructions Soz has decided to convene a Panchayat conferences in Kashmir for which he would invite the AICC general secretary,Rahul Gandhi, the union Health Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, who heads the dissidents in the Kashmir congress, and Mohan Prakash,Congress incharge for Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that it would be the first step on the part of Soz to bridge the gulf with the dissidents by inviting Azad to a conference organised by the PCC.Earlier the PCC leadership would not invite Azad and his supporters in the Congress to meetings and rallies organised by Soz supporters.
Another direction issued to Soz is to avoid making any firm commitment on the alliance between the Congress and the NC during the next Assembly election.Accordingly,Soz has stated that the issue of keeping the alliance in tact during the next Assembly election had to be decided by the Congress high command.
This indicates that the Congress has not closed its option for reframing its alliance with the PDP.But party sources ruled out Congress aligning with the PDP in the near future. They said that the Congress high command, which is satisfied with the performance of Omar led Government and has appreciated the incident free election to the four Legislative council seats, would watch Omar's role and act accordingly in case the high command found Omar sidelining the Congress while formulating important policy matters.
The results of the council poll has convinced the Congress that its role as the Government maker would continue even after the net Assembly election.A senior Congress leader said that the Congress will continue to be part of the Government because neither the NC nor the PDP has any possibility of winning even a simple majority in the 87-member Assembly.
