| NC wary of silent political volcano | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 9: National Conference is shaken by the silent political volcano of the MLC elections results, though the Chief Minister is deliberately putting up mask of jubilation to keep party cadre intact. Senior party leaders have privately admitted that results have proved the party has slipped considerably and it is serious warning. "There is nothing to rejoice about the result. Even though we have managed to win, mainly because of the alliance with Congress, the margin victory clearly proves that things are not working for us. Senior leadership sniffing defeat is now trying to get into the lap of Cong which could prove further detrimental," said senior NC Minister. The point made by the NC Minister was echoed by the Cong leader Abdul Gani Malik today. He said PDP had made huge inroads into the bastions of both NC and Cong and it's a serious politically development and both parties shouldn't see much into the results. PDP, which contested elections both against NC and Cong combine and also against the entire government machinery, lost the two seats in Kashmir with the margin of about two-thousand votes and also emerged as principal opposition party in Jammu, even pushing BJP to the corner. "Had elections not been held in alliance of NC-Cong, then PDP would have definitely managed to secure both the seats. Sensing defeat Abdullahs' managed to convince Cong leadership to enter into alliance for this elections so as to keep government stable till next elections. But things can't be said with certainty in the next elections," said a senior NC Minister. Political observers believe that one of the major reasons for coalition candidates to secure win in all the seats was because panchs and sarpanchs are dependent on government machinery for funds and it is for this reason than can be induced and it had played a major role. "NC is conceding defeat before polls by taking of alliance with Cong. NC is proving itself that it can go to any length to stay in power. This could politically boomerang for the party and for which political leadership would be blamed," said a senior Cong leader.
