| Alliance for 2014 polls: Omar proposes, Cong leaders dispose idea | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 9: Euphoric about the victory on four seats of Legislative Council, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has once again expressed his desire to contest the 2014 Assembly elections jointly with its alliance partner Congress. While he said it a couple of times earlier in recent past, he formally proposed the idea in the Working Committee meeting of National Conference held in Jammu on Saturday. The idea has however bee dismissed outright by the senior Congress leader including J&K PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz , contending the final decision over the matter lay purely with High Command of Congress. Even though Prof Soz has been rejecting this with a little bit of ambiguity , not directly ruling out the option and even hinting at continuance of the coalition between Congress and NC in future , but as far as the matter of contesting the polls jointly is concerned, Soz reiterated it once again that it was the decision to be taken by High Command. While speaking to media in Srinagar on Saturday , the PCC chief did not hesitate in saying that the idea of contesting 2014 Assembly elections jointly might be Chief Minster Omar Abdullah's personal aspiration and opinion. A day after Prof Soz dismissed the idea mooted by the NC Working president, it was one more senior Congress Abdul Ghani Vakil who uttered this similar lines. Vakil simply said that so far as contesting the next assembly election is concerned the matter purely lies in the domain of central leadership of Congress. Only the time will tell whether the elections are to be fought in coalition or not…..he said in loud and clear words.
