Kishtwar police detains 6 Burmese from Dachhan
‘LeT plan to sabotage construction of upcoming power projects’

Kishtwar, Dec 9: Kisht-war police detained six Burmese nationals including few women and children from re-mote Dachhan area of this mountainous district and put them to sustained questioning at police station Kis-htwar.
According to the reports, Dachhan police after witnessing suspicious movement of some Burmese nationals took them into custody for questioning. During interrogation, they disclosed that one Zahoor Ahmed Cho-pan son of Abdul Aziz Chopan resident of Kiyar Dachhan kidnapped the wife of Abdul Johli resident of Pokran Burma from Kashmir and further informed the police that Zahoor had forcefully solemnized marriage with his wife.
After the preliminary investigation, police swung into action and detained Zahoor Ahmed Chopan as well for questioning. The Burmese nationals reportedly tried to mislead the police by giving wrong information about their identification.


Police suspected foul play keeping in view the LeT threat to destroy upcoming power projects in the area. The police sources said the Burmese nationals might be engaged by the LeT for recee in the area under the pretext of labourers.

The sources said that on the bases of the preliminary questioning of the detained persons, senior police officials has decided to register an FIR against these detained persons under Passport Act. The sources said that senior police officers in Kishtwar district are also questioning them about the route used by them to first infiltrate into India and then to Jammu and Kashmir without being intercepted despite heavy presence of BSF on Burma-India border.

The sources said that Zahoor Ahmed Chopan is working in some hotel in Srinagar from last few years and even cannot rule out possible angle of human trafficking as well. Keeping in view the ongoing questioning of all the detained 7 persons, senior police officers have restricted the media and public entry inside police station Kishtwar.

Beside police, several intelligence agencies have reportedly quizzed the detainees. Dachhan and Marwahs areas of Kishtwar district are considered as hub of HM militant outfit and it was in the same area from where the explosive was shifted to Delhi for carrying out the September 7 last year blast outside Delhi High Court. Hizb most wanted commander Chota Hafiz is also hiding in the same area.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistani sponsored militant outfits' were trying to sabotage the construction of power project to be constructed on river Chenab. Earlier, LeT militants were caught by the police while they tried to blow up state owned 450 MW Baglihar Power project. They also attacked the construction party on "Wullar barrage" on August 29, 2012. Both Wullar barrage project as well as Baglihar power project comes under Indus Water Treaty Agreement and Pakistan time and again raised objections against the construction of power project on River Chenab and in case Baglihar Power Project, Pakistani Government also approached World Bank for mediation but lost the case.
