| Mushrooming of marriage halls add to public nuisance | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 11: Construction of marriage halls and community centers in the residential colonies has added to noise and environmental pollution in Jammu to a great extent. Despite the claims of the Government to act against those marriage and community halls which are functioning within the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) limits and violating the set norms nothing has been done till date with the result the proprietors of these community halls have taken a sway and they continue to rule the roost. With the expansion of Jammu city during last two decades there has also been a mushrooming of number of marriage halls and maximum number of them have come up in outskirts of the city and rural areas. They have led to the noise as well as environmental pollution with the authorities at the helm of affairs helpless to take action against them. The marriage halls have created such a nuisance especially during the marriage season that the people living within their vicinity are feeling it totally difficult to pass the day. These marriage halls have become the centers of nuisance as the beating of drums and bursting of crackers to late midnight hours disturb the domestic life of people round about in two kilometer vicinity.According to sources the people are totally fed up with the mushrooming of these halls and in various localities where the marriage halls have created public nuisance the residents in surrounding areas have decided to dispose of their houses after the their repeated pleas have failed to yield the fruit. Sources said that there are complaints in these areas that residents can't sleep for entire night due to noise pollution of DJ sets and deafening crackers which even rock the entire area. Sources said the crackers some times shake the residential areas in the vicinity and people apprehend that a blast has perhaps taken place. But the Government is so unresponsive that it failed to take action against such marriage halls who even some of them have not set up in conformity with standing rules. Many marriage halls have also no parking place and the vehicles are parked either on road side or other public places resulting in long time traffic jams. The residents of these localities have made a number of complaints with the concerned authorities but to no avail. In other cities of the country the marriage halls in public areas are not allowed to run the DJ sets more than 10 pm and they are not also allowed to burst crackers adding to noise and other environmental pollution.
