NEW DELHI, Dec 11: Taking swift action in the cases of indiscipline, Army has either completed or is in final stages of completing courts of inquiry into cases where officers and jawans were involved in stand-offs. Army sources said the court of inquiry (CoI) against a Lieutenant Colonel, who was allegedly having relations with a suspect Bangladeshi ISI agent over Facebook, has also been completed. 215 witnesses including five officers, 21 JCOs and 189 jawans have been examined as witnesses in the Nyoma case in which officers and jawans in an Army unit in Ladakh were involved in a face-off on May 26 and the Commanding Officer was also injured, the sources said here.
The CoI, which is being held under a Brigadier, is expected to be completed by December 15. The men and the officers had clashed during a firing practice session where women were also present.
Inquiry in the Samba case in which jawans and officers of an Army contingent in Jammu were involved in another face-off after the suicide by a jawan has been completed and the report is expected to be submitted to the higher formation in the near future, they said.
In the Facebook case, a Lt Col belonging to the 82 Armoured Regiment in Sri Ganganagar was caught for establishing contact on social networking site Facebook with a Bangladeshi woman working for Pakistan's ISI. The woman, in fact, had earlier "honey-trapped" another Indian officer in an ISI espionage operation in Bangladesh late last year. The CoI has been completed in the case of the Lt Col and it would soon be submitted to the Army Headquarters through the proper channel.
