New Delhi: In what may come as good news for millions of consumers, the government may hike the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders from the current limit of six per family to nine. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily today said that the final decision of raising the cap on subsidized cooking gas will be taken by the cabinet and that it would be affected within a year. Earlier in November, the petroleum minister informed that the government was considering raising the cap from 6 to 9 'within a few days'. However, it did not materialize. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has approved a proposal to provide three additional subsidised LPG cylinders annually to around 3.56 lakh poor families identified under Kerosene-free Delhi scheme. Similarly, the Maharashtra government has also decided to provide three additional subsidised LPG cylinders to those with an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh, a decision that was taken at a cabinet meeting. |
