JAMMU, Dec 11: Quarterfinals position has been cleared with the entry of title contenders, Punjab, CRPF, SSB, CISF, Uttar Pradesh and BSF in the last eight stages of the ongoing 61st All India Police Hockey Championship, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police under the banner of All India Police Sports Control Board at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today. Two other sides of hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police and Tamil Nadu Police have already made it to the knock-out stages of quarterfinals yesterday. Now, in the quarterfinals, slated to be held tomorrow, J&K Police shall take on the formidable side of CISF at 10 am while Tamil Nadu shall face SSB in the first last eight stages match at 8 am. In other quarterfinals of the day, Punjab Police has been pitted against Uttar Pradesh and CRPF shall be playing against BSF at 2 pm at the same venue tomorrow. Earlier, in the last round of the league matches, played today, CISF defeated the equally good Andhra Pradesh by five goals to two while SSB overpowered Mahar-ashtra 4-3 to make it to the last eight stages. To qualify for the quarterfinals, Uttar Pradesh sidelined Chattisgarh beating latter by seven goals to nil and CRPF trounced Karnataka by two goals to nil in their last group engagements. In another league match of the day, Punjab inflicted a humiliating defeat on West Bengal making it 11-0. Today's matches were officiated by the penal of technical officials including Virender Kumar, Vijay Kishore, Jagit Singh Reen, V P Sharma, Imtiaz-ud-Din, Anil Kumar, Tabrez Sher, Naveed Zia, Mohd Ameen and Sanjay Bhatia. FIXTURE: Quarterfinals: Tamil Nadu V/s SSB at 8 am; J&K V/s CISF at 10 am; Punjab V/s Uttar Pradesh at 12 noon; CRPF V/s BSF at 2 pm. |
