Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 24: Brilliant innings played by in-form all-rounders, Parvez Rassol and Ram Dayal not only saved Jammu and Kashmir from early end of their innings but turned the pressure on visitors, Himachal Pradesh by setting a difficult target of 235 runs to chase on the fourth and last day of the Group-C Ranji Trophy match underway at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Relaying on only hope, international cricketer and skipper, Akash Chopra, Himachal still need 203 runs with nine wickets remaining to win the match that too on a wicket that has proved to be pacers' paradise.
Earlier, Himachal bowled for almost whole day to unstoppable middle order batsmen, Parvez Rasool and Ram Dayal but success eluded them. It was only in the fag end of the day that Himachal got the all important wicket of Ram Dayal, who was caught by Malik off Mukesh Sharma at 71, to make an end to J&K innings at 248 in 81.3 overs.
In turn, visitors could not make it a positive start and soon wicket-keeper opener, A Bhaliak was bowled by Ram Dayal in his second and innings third over. However, man at the other end, Akash Chopra was batting confidently at 23 coming off 37 deliveries with the help of four hits to the fence to bring the score to 32 for one in 10 overs.
Earlier, Parvez Rassol and OA Shah took a tough stance and faced the Himachal pacers with confidence and did not allow visitors to cause any more damage. Both together added 73 runs to bring J&K score to 87 for four from troublesome overnight total of 16 for three. Parvez was then joined by Ram Dayal for another 61 runs partnership for the sixth wicket. When Parvez lost his wicket at 83, the score on board was already nearing the 200 mark.
