Cooperative Minister puts blame on driver
JAKFED embezzlement issue
12/24/2012 11:23:36 PM
SUMIT SHARMA
Jammu, Dec 24: The coo-perative minister has put the blame of embezzlement of around Rs 40 lakhs on a driver of JAKFED. The driver has been identified as Rajinder Singh. The Minister said police were investigating the matter. However, a senior police official said that though a complaint was received from MD JAKFED against the driver, but the same was rolled back to the JAKFED authorities for departmental inquiry.
In a reply to Jammu and Kashmir State Accoun-tability Commission, the copy of which is in possession of ET, the minister said, "It is stated that the log book of the vehicle was inspected to see the correctness of the allegations made in the complaint. It is observed that entries of the log book of the vehicle have been mutilated. Some of the relevant entries have been overwritten after applying white fluid while erasing the original entries. Who has done it with what motive and the purpose of making the new/fresh entries after erasing the original entries by applying white fluid, was enquired into by the officer of the JAKFED. It has been brought to the notice of the respondent that the driver was issued show cause notice who revealed that he had done so on the directions of some officials of JAKFED. The matter has been referred to the police for investigation as reported by the MD of JAKFED….".
The contrast reply came from minister after RTI activist SK Bhalla lodged a complaint in SAC. Bhalla filed the complaint following reports that minister incharge Cooperative Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was issued separate vehicle and cavalcade by the government, and is no more chairman of JAKFED; the minister has allegedly been using JAKFED vehicles regularly for his family and himself.

JAKFED purchased Tata Sumo Grandi No 1444/02AH for its employees in the year 2008, but the same was taken by Manohar Lal Sharma, minister, and deployed with her teacher wife. As per log book, the vehicle was taken out of state several times which cost the JAKFED Rs 3 lakh. Later, when the vehicle was damaged, the minister took out other vehicle of JAKFED, a Bolero bearing registration number JK02AR/4628.The vehicle was attached to his wife again and other family members. The fuel expenses of both the vehicles go to around Rs 40 lakh. Pertinent to mention JAKFED is already in crisis and is on top list of sale tax evaders.
Meanwhile, sources said the State Accountability Commission, has fixed Dec 26 as date of hearing.
