| AJKPC delegation meets Azad, central leaders | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 24 : A seven member delegation of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) led by its chairman Shafiq Mir met Union Health Minister and other central leaders in New Delhi on Sunday and apprised them about the status of Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir and other political and developmental situation in the state. Other prominent members in the delegation included General Secretary AJKPC Anil Sharma, Spokesman Ghulam Hassan Panzoo, Provincial Secretary Kashmir Bashir Ahmed Malik, Executive Member Goutam Singh Jamwal, Mohammad Alam Choudhary and Nazir Ahmed Sheikh. The delegation was invited by the Institute of Social Sciences on the occasion of celebration of 20th anniversary of 73rd Amendment. During the event, the AJKPC leaders raised forcefully the issue of Panchayats in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and demanded that all the provisions of 73rd Amendment should be incorporated in the state Panchayati Raj Act of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking during a separate session, the AJKPC leaders asked the Union government that the real democracy of India must be extended to Jammu and Kashmir. Beside this convention, the AJKPC leaders met with many other central leaders and think tank groups and apprised them about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The AJKPC leaders held a meeting with Azad at his official residence. During the hour long meeting, former chief minister of the Jammu and Kashmir discussed various issues with the Panchayat leaders and expressed his dissatisfaction over the "so-called" powers delegated to the Panchayats in the state and assured them that he wants to see real Panchayati Raj in the Jammu and Kashmir. Beside Panchayats, Azad also got the first hand information from the Panchayat leaders about the problems being faced by them at ground level. |
