Jammu students protest against Delhi, Gharota rape incidents

Jammu, Dec 24: Despite government's announcement of declaring holiday on Monday in Jammu colleges, students of various colleges under the banner of National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) protested against the gruesome Delhi gang-rape incident and attempted rape of a local girl in Gharota area of Jammu.
The NPSU had on Sunday called for Secretariat gherao on Monday. Sensing mounting anger among the students, the government announced winter vacation in Jammu colleges from December 24.
"However, the government decision to control anger of the students by declaring holiday proved a flop show as students of the various college including both girls and boys showed their anger. Students of GCW, Gandhi Nagar held protest by breaking the round of the police cops and marched from their college to Vikram Chowk. They blocked the road at Vikram Chowk," a statement of NPSU said.
The students of Government MAM PG college held a protest demonstration under the banner of NPSU and raised the slogans against the Delhi and J&K governments for not failing to provide safety to girls. The protest was led by Lucky Singh (President MAM College).
Students of the GGM Science college gathered at the main gate and raised slogans against the state government and higher education department "for trying to muzzle the voice of students."
Students of ITI, Jammu also held protest demonstration against the center as well as state governments for not taking any steps against these type of criminals. Students of the women Polytechnic College also showed their anger by protesting outside the college gate. Addressing the students Sheekel Zaka (State Secretary NPSU) demanded capital punishment for the rapists. "What is the government doing to curb rape cases in the capital? The rapists should be hanged. We need tougher laws to stop rapes," he demanded.
Addressing the students Anupama (President GCW Prade) lambasted the Delhi police where such types of incidents have become a routine. She demanded that strict action should be taken against the culprit so that in future no one dares to commit such type of crime.

Partap Singh Jamwal (State President NPSU) criticized the decision of announcement of holiday by the state government. He said that the recent incident which was seen in Gharota was like the incident of Delhi.
On Sunday evening the activists of the NPSU took out a candle light rally at Janipur against rising rape cases in the Country. The rally was led by Sahil Mustaq (City vice president NPSU), and Sidhat Dogra (City joint secretary NPSU).
Students of Akhnoor Tehsil also took out candle light march under the banner of NPSU at Main Chowk in support of rape victim in Delhi and recently incident in Jammu. The protesters were led By Atul Suddan and Abinash Bassan.
Students of Govt. HSS Jourina and Khour also boycotted their classes and held a protest demonstration against government.
