| Sericulture Deptt organises awareness camp for farmers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 2 : Department of Sericulture organized an awareness camp in Nagrota on Wednesday for farmers of the district about the latest techniques of silkworm rearing and plantation. MLA Yash Paul Kundal was the chief guest of the function which was attended by 500 farmers of sericulture and allied sector, a spokesperson of the Department said in a statement. Director Sericulture Dhanbir Singh said that there was scope of sericulture in the district and appealed the farming community to come forward to avail the incentives/assistance available under various centrally/state sponsored schemes in shape of assistance provided for planting of mulberry plants @ Rs 5500 for plantation of 300 plants. He also invited the attention of unemployed youth of the district to avail the benefits provided under post cocoon sector for setting up of reeling units in the district for which there is a sharing pattern incentive of 80 percent Central Silk Board, 10 percent State Share and 10 percent beneficiary contribution Additional Director Sericulture Development Department Madan Lal Chadgal briefed the audience about the progress made by the department. "About 87 mulberry nurseries exist in Jammu for production of mulberry plants for transplantation through farmers in the clusters. 19000 ounces of silkworm seed is distributed every year in the province and 6.02 lac kgs cocoon crop is produced annually," he added. In District Samba, he said, the Department has taken an initiative for development of Sericulture activities. "About 20000 mulberry plants have been planted through farmers, 65 ounces of silkworm seed was distributed among 60 farmers and 2200 kgs of cocoon crop was produced." |
