| Tarigami expresses concern over Govt's 'callous' attitude towards daily wagers | | Urges IFKON to reinstate disengaged workers’ | | early times report Jammu, Jan 2: Expressing serious concern over the lackadaisical attitude of the government to fulfil its commitments vis-à-vis regularisation of daily wagers and release of dues to causal labourers in Power Development Department, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam Mohammad You-suf Tarigami today said the "callous" administration has left this hapless lot to tremendous hardships, forcing them to take to streets. In a statement Tarigami remarked that over a year has passed when the state cabinet gave a nod to the regularisation of daily wagers working in PDD "but a formal order to this effect is yet to be issued thus adding to the frustration of daily wagers who toil hard despite pressing circumstances." The CPI (M) leader condemned the police action against the protesting PDD causal labourers who had assembled at press enclave in Srinagar "but were later dispersed by police taking most of the protesters under detention." Recalling the government of its commitment made with the PDD daily wagers who had called off their 57-day long 'pen down, tool down' strike on February 8, 2010, Tarigami said what happened to the commitment of a delegation comprising Minister for State for Power Shabir Ahmed Khan, Political Advisor to Chief Minister that the government would release their pending wages by February 28, 2010. Meanwhile, the CPI (M) leader condemned police action against AFCONS Company workers who have been disengaged and were demonstrating against the company's action peacefully at Nagrota. "Their disengagement is completely unwarranted and uncalled for action from the company. The 80 workers who have been disengaged without any purpose must be reinstated as quickly as possible," he demanded. He further urged upon the administration not to use force against the poor workers who are forced to agitate for redressal of their legitimate grievances. The administration should ensure that those workers who have been disengaged arbitrary must be reinstated so that the work on construction of four lanes does not suffer.
