| Court convicts kidnapper of minor | | | early times report
Srinagar, Jan 2: A local court in Kupwara has convicted a person accused of abducting a minor girl and later forcing her to marry him.
The accused Bashir Ahmad Beigh son of Afzal Beigh of Cheerakote Vilgam had kidnapped the victim in 1999 from an orchid in Kupwara with the help of his three associates.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Kupwara Shahzad Azim after hearing the arguments of both defence and prosecution convicted the accused for commission of offence under Section 366 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The victim who was 14 years old at the time of the commission of the offence according to prosecution was bundled in a taxi by the accused from an orchid in Kupwara and taken to Srinagar, where she was kept for a night and subsequently compelled to marry.
The court observed that that accusation regarding compelling the victim to enter in martial wedlock with the accused got further strengthened on examining the testimony of Assistant Surgeon Sub District Hospital Kupwara, Dr Waheeda
Parveen wherein it has come that on examination some scratch marks were found on the face of the victim.
