EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 6 : The first Sunday of the year 2013 witnessed the highly innovative performance of RangRoots' first Kashmiri play, 'Bohraan' at Natrang Studio in Natrang's Sunday Theatre Series. RangRoots is a Jammu based theatre society which works with the mission to explore and develop the alternative language in performance. The play 'Bohraan' been conceived, designed and directed by Asheish Nijhawan and has been supported by National School of Drama to promote Rabindernath Tagore's writings in regional languages. Santanu Bose, an expert from NSD was the Special Guest and Padam Shree Moti Lal Kemmu was the Language Expert and Translator of the play. The performance is based on the Rabindranath Tagore's last speech 'Crisis of Civilization' and his poem 'Heaven of Freedom'. It is a journey of a poet who is shaken out of the dreams and began to realize how British Empire demolished culture, identity and civilization in Indian Sub-Continent. His interpretation of political, social and psychological developments leading to degeneration of communal unity, domination of majority over minority, mental imbalance of the common masses during and after the British rulers left the sub continent, paving the way for partition. He raises question 'What kind of India will they leave behind'. He believes that the dawn will come from this horizon, from the East where the Sun rises. He prays for a day to come when unvanquished man will retrace his path of conquest, despite all barriers, to win back his lost human heritage. Those who acted in the play included Rohit Verma, Balwinder Pal Singh, Gaurav Jamwal, Uplaksh Singh Kotwal, Ashwini Bali, Shivam Manhas, Susheel Raina and Mohit Rawat. Mohd. Yaseen, Sajra Qadir, Vikram Sharma and Vishal Sharma assisted in the Backstage. Video Projections were done by Ankush Lakhnotra, Natasha designed the costumes. Lights were designed by Anil Tickoo. Sets were designed by Asheish Nijhawan. Sumeet Sharma was the production coordinator and Neeraj Kant was the Assistant Director of the play. |
