early times report JAMMU, Jan 17: Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar today registered a 14 runs win over GDC Ramban to reach the next round of pre-quarterfinals of the inter-college men's cricket tournament underway at University of Jammu ground, here. Earlier, GDC Billawar won the toss and decided to bat first. They set a target of 135 for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, GDC Ramban could not chase and completed their 20 overs for 120 runs with two wickets in hand. Surjeet (39 off 37 balls, 6x4) and Sunil Kumar (34 off 25 balls, 2x4, 1x6) were top scorers while Gulshan and Rahul Sharma added 13 runs each. From Ramban, Sanjay Verma took two wickets. Later, GDC Ramban could not maintain the required run rate of near seven runs per over and exhausted their quota of 20 overs at a score of 120 thereby lost the match by 14 runs. Imtiaz Naik made 21-ball 29 runs, followed 23 coming from Umar Khan and 13 runs contributed by Uasser Arafat. Rahul Sharma was most successful bowler from GDC Billawar with three wickets while Shawaz Bhat and Bhanu Partap shared a piece each. Now, in the pre-quarte rfinals, GDC Billawar shall be playing against GDC Samba on January 21. Today's match was officiated by Raman Kumar and Vijay Dogra while Manu Khajuria maintained the score. Meanwhile, another scheduled match between Dogra Law College and GDC Thanamandi could not be played because of rains. |
