| Cong doesn't want to grow | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 17: Congress has to its own peril didn't take much of opportunity from the Cabinet reshuffle like its coalition partner National Conference. The party did nothing more than inducted three MLAs as Ministers which was due to it as these portfolios were just taken away from it and they were always there to be taken back. The Cong had major share of its seats from the Jammu. In Kashmir it got only three MLAs and all of them had been given Cabinet Minister status. The party didn't realize the fact that in 36 seats of Jammu region, in about 25 seats Hindu votes hold the considerable influence. The party should have taken this into account and had taken the decision of inducting fresh new faces from the areas which hadn't been represented by the party in the Cabinet. The party had tried to confined itself in the Jammu heartland and in the reshuffle given representation to only Jammu region. The areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Kishtwar and also in Kathua belt have gone unrepresented. NC had done this exercise in the Cabinet reshuffle. If the party was not having enough MLAs from the lower house for this exercise , it could have looked for faces from the upper house, here also NC had shown the way. The Cong could have adjusted them in the Cabinet and this could have not only rejuvenated the party but also strengthen its cadres and could have reignited the party in these far off areas. The party should have realized that it is facing four corner contest in Jammu region, unlike in Kashmir where PDP and NC are principal parties. The party has to face competition from BJP, Panthers and also assertive PDP, which is desperately trying to assert itself in the Jammu region. The Cabinet reshuffle was an opportunity for the party to effectively put these permutations and combinations into results but like old feudal set up, delusioned by its grand old political standing, the party though it better not to shake up the structure. It seem clear that party doesn't want to grow politically and want to play a role of second fiddle either with the NC or PDP much to its own political peril. |
