| A month on, BJP yet to have new team of functionaries | | Reason for delay: New President under 'pressure' of lobbies | |

Jammu, Jan 17: Nearly a month on, the new President of State unit of BJP has not been able to announce the new team of office bearers on whom responsibilities could be entrusted as per their designations. Reason for the delay is being attributed by insiders to the pulls and pressures from various lobbies to accommodate as many of their 'men' against some prestigious posts in the new organizational hierarchy.
Sources said even as the new State president of BJP Jugal Kishore is keen to form a new team of functionaries that would enable him to start organizational works and functioning in a better manner, he has not been able to do so on account of some senior leaders under respective lobbies exerting pressure from different quarters to get a place against key posts that matters in running organizational activities. Sources said for the post of General Secretaries there are over two dozen contenders pushing hard to get a berth whereas the availability is just for four such posts in the organizational structure.
Sources said apart from some new contenders in the race for this post, there are a couple of old ones who desperately want their designation to be repeated in the new order of things after assuming of office by Jugal Kishore. Of the two , a senior leader is actually pushing hard and using all 'channels' to be repeated and re-designated against the same post he held in the previous set up. Sources said while a lobby is willing to accommodate him, a majority of people particularly in the middle rung and even at worker level, resist any such move. While there a few reasons as to a vast section was not interested in taking over the responsibility against a key post, it is his political background (having started his career from National Conference), which is also blocking the prospects, despite his influence.
Sources said State unit of BJP having earned a 'dubious distinction' of being a team B of NC, for one or the other reason, the staunch loyalists and hardcore supporters of BJP are making all out attempts to rid the party of this 'tag' at all levels and see the new order in organizational level as pure, dedicated BJP leaders committed for promoting its ideology and working for the cause and interests of Jammu. Sources said it is on account of this growing feeling that the incumbent president is not taking any step in haste ,since he himself is being accused of having some inclination towards NC. The undercurrent of the feelings at worker and cadre level is that leadership should not entertain anyone on key posts having a 'tag' or inclination towards any other party other than BJP as this would amount to repeating the past mistakes.
Sources said he is feeling helpless and in a state of dilemma in 'choosing' the right candidates, both the posts of vice presidents and general secretaries as apart from being under pulls and pressures, he has also to take care of various factors like caste, gender etc in making a new team against these posts as well. How long the new president would take to finalize the list remains to be seen but everyone is keen to end the 'suspense'. |
