| Move to induct new faces in State Cabinet stalled at Eleventh hour..? | | Hot debate in Congress circles | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 17: Amid resentment from certain quarters within the party, the National Conference successfully managed to infuse young and new faces in the new Ministry but its major ally-Congress party-seems to have miserably failed to replace at least few from existing battery of Ministers. Insiders in Congress disclosed that "there is a deep anguish and resentment among party workers and leaders that expected severe overhauling in the Cabinet re-shuffle. But the party high command seems to have succumbed before sitting Ministers and last minute changes spoiled the bright chances of probable candidates to become Minister." "Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ravinder Sharma, from Sunderbani was all set to replace Minister of State for Power, Shabir Khan from Rajouri. Minister of State for Cooperatives, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was also to be dropped. Even, former Minister and sitting Legislator Jugal Kishore Sharma was expected to be adjusted in the new Ministry. Besides, four senior Cabinet Ministers including two from Kashmir valley and two from Jammu Province were to be dropped keeping in view their poor performance and serious allegations of corruption and scams against them. But the move was stalled and the reasons are best known to Saif-ud-Din Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad," is learnt to have a big talk of discussion these days in Congress circles. "We had high hopes from the party stalwarts especially from PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad as they jointly held parleys at New Delhi to review the performance of sitting Ministers and finalize the names of new faces in the Ministry. But what went wrong during the eleventh hour, no one knows and the list that was finalized was shelved," shared a Congress MLA while speaking to Early Times on the condition of anonymity. He further pointed out that "NC especially Omar Abdullah boldly inducted new faces but in Congress only one Minister was dropped." "If one closely studies the distribution of portfolios, it becomes crystal clear that Congress heavyweights which were earlier presented with important portfolios have been sidelined with petty portfolios. That clearly shows that the heavyweights miserably failed to perform. And if this is a fact then why they were not dropped and why other party legislators were not given a chance to show their respective calibre in remaining two years of coalition Government," pointed out another Legislator of Congress party further adding that "if the senior party stalwarts does not agree to this fact of non-performance then why the heavyweights were not allocated with more important portfolios to further strengthen the party hold in the general public?" |
