1/18/2013 12:24:44 AM

Early TImes Report

Srinagar, Jan 17: Terming the recent reshuffle in the state Cabinet and the National Conference cadres a part of preparations for the 2014 assembly polls, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said "it was not to show any body inferior".
"It was difficult for me to decide about choosing ministers-- and their selection --What I did I have no regret-- it was not to show any body inferior-- change was aimed towards 2014 elections," he said.
Omar was making reference to reports on some leaders being unhappy over the failure to get a Cabinet berth while some were disappointed for being asked to take over command of party affairs from ministerial posts.
The aim behind the recent reshuffle in the party and state Cabinet was to give representation to the people in a comprehensive manner, he said.
Omar, however, said there may be areas which needed representation but could not get it. "I am well versed with the situation and appropriate action will be taken in this regard," he added.
"Political parties are instrumental in forming governments and representing the aspirations of people. It was immaterial for party stalwarts to remain in the government or serve the parties in Jammu and Kashmir", Omar said in a function at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan here.
He exhorted the party members to gear up for the 2014 assembly polls and apprise people about the achievements of the state government. "Although elections are about two years away but the preparation and public rapport is all the more essential to apprise the people about the achievements of the state government," he said. Omar asked party activists to meet people and attend to their grievances in a more focused manner.
