| Angry Chenab Valley vouches for Niaz | | 882 Sarpanchs, 528 Panchs resign | | EARLY TIME REPORT JAMMU, Jan 17: Around 82 sarpanchs and 528 panchs have resigned to protest non-induction of MLA Bhaderwah, Muha-mmad Sharief Niaz in the state cabinet which was expanded/reshuffled rece-ntly. The resignations were submitted to Niaz through Sarpanchs Hashim Din, Kurshid, Ahmed and Jaipal Singh. They urged Niaz to resign from the Congress party and contest forthcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate for betterment of Bhalesa and Bhade-rwah. Expressing their anger, they accused former Chief Minister, Ghu-lam Nabi Az-ad of leaving out Niaz deli-berately. "He (Azad) does not want anybody else to gain popularity in the region", they accused. They said Niaz was honest, dedicated and truly secular. He resigned from government service in 1977 and since then has been serving the Congress and the general public. Niaz has won elections from Bhaderwah three times and in 2006 he offered to quit to make way for Azad. He has also served the state as MoS Law in 1989 and Minister for Power Develo-pment from 2003 to 2005. Niaz, they said has the distinction of staying back in the area during peak of militancy and came under militant attack more than thirty times. They further stated that his tenure as Power Minister is considered to be the golden era in the history of Jammu and Kashmir as various bold initiatives were taken by Niaz for the development of the power infrastructure into the state. Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir has been facing tough time, even a day after the cabinet reshuffle cum expansion, with elected Panchayat members continue to resign in support of MLA Inderwal and MLA Bhaderwah who were not taken in the Govern-ment as ministers. Pertinent to mention the area has 104 sarpanchs and 600 panchs. |
