UDHAMPUR, Jan 20 : A rumour of recruitment rally for Territorial Army (TA) today sparked off strong protest in Udhampur town.
After somebody spread a rumor that TA is organizing a recruitment rally at Garnai, Udhampur today, a large number of youth from different parts of the district as well outside converged at Garnai area late last evening.
Approximately 1300 youths when reached Garnai found no TA recruitment there and came to know that this is simply a gossip spread by some mischievous elements. Today morning youths assembled at Indira Chowk, Udhampur and raised the slogans against state government.
Police detained the leaders of the protestors. After that the angry mob protested in front of Police Station, Udhampur and demanded release of their leaders, who were later released by the Police. When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Udhampur Ashkoor Wani told that the recruitment in TA was just a rumor adding that we are trying to trace out that who played a mischievous foul play and spread a rumour like this. |
