Resentment continues to brew among NC-Cong camps in Srinagar, Jammu

Jammu, Jan 20: Resentment is brewing in Congress as well as National Conference camps in the backdrop of January 15, cabinet reshuffle-cum-expansion wherein many stalwarts have been allotted insignificant portfolios while some junior ministers have emerged stronger by getting the most significant and high profile portfolios with independent charge. National Conference is also facing strong resentment from the Srinagar based legislators who have been completely marginalized and the wings of the lone minister from the city have been clipped by stripping of one important portfolio from him.
In Jammu region, Congress camp is completely disillusioned because for the first time in the democratic history of J&K, minister of State have been allotted the high profile and significant portfolios while the stalwarts have been left lurking in disgrace.
Barring two ministers from the region, all other have been allotted insignificant portfolios which has not gone well with the congress workers at the gross root level and has invited severe criticism from them.
For instance, department of Health which was traditionally held by stalwarts has been allotted to a junior minister with independent charge to the utter disgrace of the senior cabinet colleagues of Omar Abdullah from Congress camp who have their own position and clout in the political arena.
Though allegations and counter allegations among the loyalists of two congress leaders professor Saifudin Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad accusing each other for whole of this mess, the fact remains that congress is the ultimate loser in the game.
While ignoring the performance of the senior ministers with considerably clean image (not those facing serious corruption charges) and allotting high profile portfolios to the junior ministers has come as a bolt out of the blue to many in the congress camp which if goes unnoticed will be having serious consequences over the future prospects of congress in the state.
Now the question remains as to whether congress affords such a big blunder of ignoring the senior not facing serious charges of corruption and making juniors (MOSs) more stronger.
Some people justify this action on the grounds that seniors were facing corruption charges. However, protagonists disapprove this justification by asking a simple question that if it was all about disempowering corrupts, then why Taj Mohiuddin, against whom serious charges of corruption, nepotism and favoritism are leveled, was not dropped.
Some others justify it on the grounds that options were limited. To this protagonists say that if National Conference would chose to induct Ajay Sadotra from upper house against the non-performing S S Salathia, why not Congress, after all some clean faces were available to congress in the Upper House.
Coming to National Conference, the party though managed to induct three faces in the council of ministers from North Kashmir, the party miserably failed in giving representation to the capital city of Srinagar.
All most all of its MLAs from Srinagar city feel humiliated by this act of the party leadership which is likely to brew in a big unrest among the legislators of the capital city.
As if their non-induction in the council of ministers was not enough they were again humiliated by not even giving them organizational responsibility. People alien to the party and new comers were installed over their heads leaving them high and dry.
Sulking MLAs from both the parties have been privately admitting that their supporters were exerting pressure on them to leave their respective parties. For all practical purposes, flutter of resentment is visible in both the camps even though the reshuffle brought ecstasy to many.
