| CM's mature response to cabinet expansion fallout | | ‘Omar has his eyes on 2014 elections' | | early times report Jammu, Jan 20: The Chief minister, Omar Abdullah has reacted like a matured politician to the fallout of the recent cabinet expansion/ reshuffle. He has not heeded the ‘sponsored' protests of panchs and sarpanchs in Jammu and Ladakh who tried to make out a case for their mentor MLAs by submitting mass resignations. Omar has made it known that he had his eyes on the 2014 assembly elections while effecting the changes in the cabinet. The high drama started when Saroori's supporters resigned from Congress party to protest his non-inclusion into the cabinet. They even urged Saroori to resign from Congress party but he refused and termed it a part and parcel of politics. Saroori also played it well. Through his supporters he conveyed his displeasure to the state and the central leadership. However, at the same time he `apparantly' remained silent and let his supporters do the talking on his behalf. The MLA from Bhaderwah, Muhammad Sharief Niaz played the same cards though without results. Their resignation from Congress went in vain. The drama, however, did impact the National Conference MLA SS Salathia. However, he was lucky enough to evoke a response from the party. The Finance minister rushed to his place and pacified him and his supporters. The way Omar has reacted to Kargil resignations reflects his maturity and confidence. While, he sent his finance minister to pacify Salathia, Akhoon was simply ignored. A statement that Akhoon had been given an important party assignment was all that came from Omar. By effecting the changes, Omar has managed to tighten his grip over the party and the government. He has succeeded in pushing his father, Dr Farooq Abdullah to the wall. Now it will be Omar and not Farooq who will call the shots in 2014.
