| Martyr Major Vivek Gupta -who pioneered first victory for India in Kargil | | | NIKHIL GUPTA | 1/20/2013 11:27:35 PM |
| It is a well known fact that the Kshyatriya Guptas of India have always stood for the defence of this country and where there are GUPTAS in battle field there is victory no matter how strong the enemy is .This fact was again witnessed in the Kargil battle when one shameless rouge nation in its unending and fruitless attempt tried to surprise India by sending armed infiltrators in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir . And this was like backstabbing attempt by that nation because only about ninty days before the then Indian Prime minister Pandit Atal bihari Vajpayee ji had taken a Bus from India to Lahore on Februrary 20 , 1999 . The then Indian PM perhaps didn't know what was the plan of that nation with whom the Indian PM was trying to do appeasement with some kind of bus diplomacy . It is a fact that within short time of about three months of Lahore Bus ceremony , kargil battle happened and this was very shocking for India that always stood for peace , love and mutual respect . But when a nation is threatened by rouge low class invaders then it is the duty of the warriors of the nation to stand like a rock and defeat the invaders . It is also a fact that on the almost nude mountains of kargil sector any well entrenched enemy force is very difficult to dislodge and this was painfully learnt by the Grenadiars of the Indian army . From May 14 , 1999 to June 11,1999 the Grenadiars battalions 18 and 16 tried their best to launch attacks on the Tololing top in Drass sector but failed to dislodge enemy from that top . They tried attacks from three different sides along the ridge lines below Tololing but the battle was so bloody and enemy was so well entrenched that the Grenadiars lost many of their troops including Major Rajesh Adhikari but success was nowhere in sight . Then it was decided by the Indian army to induct another unit with fresh blood to launch this almost suicidal mission to capture this bloody Tololing top in Drass sector of Kargil . From June 12 , 1999 the suicide attack on Tololing Top began with Major Vivek Gupta in command . As movement was possible only during night , the attack began on 8 PM , June 12 , 1999 with as many as three different battalions of Indian army holding positions on three different sides below the Tololing Top . The only option for MAJOR VIVEK GUPTA and his men was to launch a FRONTAL ATTACK and this was like suicide because in frontal attack with no cover except the distant artillery and covering fire from the Indian troops below , the attack was bound to face enemy barrage of bullets and rockets . Three different teams were made and were ordered to launch attack from three different sides and the one reaching first on TOP will engage the enemy soldiers in hand to hand combat and kill them and capture the TOP . With no fear and having capability to lead the troops from the front , Major Vivek Gupta launched a ferocious attack from the rear and very difficult side of the Tololing Top . Despite heavy artillery and automatic fire from the enemy , the army unit under the leadership of Major Vivek Gupta was able to close in to the enemy. As soon as the team of Major Vivek Gupta emerged in the open near the top of Tololing , they came under intense multidirectional fire. Three persons of the leading section of the unit were hit and the attack was stalled temporarily. Knowing fully well that staying any longer in the open under enemy fire would lead to more losses, Major Vivek Gupta reacted immediately and fired a rocket launcher at the enemy bunker. Before the shocked enemy could recover, Major Vivek Gupta charged on to the enemy bunker. While charging he was hit by two bullets despite which he kept moving towards the bunker. On reaching the bunker he engaged the enemy in fierce hand to hand combat and managed to kill three enemy soldiers despite his own injuries. Taking inspiration by the gallant deed of the officer Major Vivek Gupta , the rest of the unit charged onto the bunker and captured it. However, in the ensuing combat Major Vivek Gupta received another direct hit of barrage of bullets and finally succumbed to his injuries.
Major Gupta and six others from his team captured the Pt 4950 peak at Tololing before they were killed in fierce combat. This was the first victory that Indian army took in kargil after as many as thirty two days of losses or tries without success . On June 14 , 1999 , the Indian flag was there on the bloody Tololing Top and this was possible only with the deadly and warrior like attack from the team led by Major Vivek Gipta -THE KSHYATRIYA GUPTA of India who knew only success and success no matter how strong the enemy is . Thus it is clear that in the time of need and emergency , it is only the true warriors like the old time KSHYATRIYA GUPTA warriors who can rip open the jaws of lions and snatch the victories from the teeth of the enemy But in our country there are lot of myths and lies propagated by various communities over a period of time but such myths or lies cannot stand against simple and plain hard facts. For example , Prof Baldev singh Panthi has clearly mentioned in his article on castes about various castes of Panjab viz. Jats , Mazhabis or ramgaria , khatri etc and he says that Jats are landowning caste primarily engaged in agriculture and khatri ,ahuja and arora caste is primarily a caste of businessmen engaged in trading , shops , business etc just like agarwals in north India . Further he mentions that castes are there but all are equal . This fact should be remembered by all and being a merit based person , I humbly opine that we Indians should choose only those warriors or kshyatriya Guptas as leaders of our country who can defeat enemy and take India forward. Then there are many people who try to say that now a days everything is bad because this is kalyug and everything is bound to be faulty in this yug . But such people forget that in reality , the same Yuga is continuing since the advent of Homo Sapiens some 40,000 years ago . I had a very good casual discussion with an eminent personality on this issue and he told me that " It is not the yuga that changes but it is the thinking of people that changes " . This must be remembered by those who cry aloud about the kalyug etc because same parameters were there in those times also . It all depends on the qualities of the persons . The losers would have lost even in so called satyug and those who have the warrior qualities of KSHYATRIYA GUPTAS always win in all kinds of yugas etc . In fact if one carefully sees the scriptures of our own sanatan dharama , then one finds many instances where there have been intrapolations, extrapolations , additions and subtractions even upto the eighteenth century . This is particularly the case of puranas of our sanatan dharama because there are large number of incongruencies , fallacies , false and unproven stories that we don't find any material facts in them . It is better to adhere to vedic scriptures of sanatan dharama and that too those ones that are not polluted with additions , subtractions , intrapolations and interpretations by disgruntled elements . Thus we must adhere to facts and not just myths or mythological stories because in battles it is the hard reality that matters .
One thing that causes trouble is the alleged role of Brig Surinder singh whose services were terminated as an after effect of kargil with charge of incompetence . Whatever be the cause of kargil battle , its lessons should be learnt by India . One big question is why the Indian army was not allowed to cross the LOC . By crossing the LOC and going behind the enemy and cutting its logistics and supplies would have ensured that the death count on Indian side remained minimum but strangely the then Indian PM and President gave no such order to Indian army or may be they restrained the Indian army from crossing the LOC . The recent beheading of dead bodies of Indian soldiers is coward act of Pakistani army and must be avenged . It is my very humble proposition that the top posts like Prime minister and President of a country should always be filled on the basis of merit only i.e. a person may belong to any caste like artisan caste of lohar , sunar etc or rajput caste or agarwal and khatri merchant caste or Brahmin and pandit caste or even may belong to religious minority group or SC or ST group but when such a person is chosen for top post then it is the duty of that person to act like a true warrior in the service of the nation . The battles like kargil remind us that it is only the true warriors like Major Vivek Gupta -the kshyatriya Gupta who snatch the victory from the very teeth of the enemy and destroy the enemy . In such battle times the head of a nation must act like a true KSHYATRIYA GUPTA who knows how to win the battle and lead the nation to progress . It is argued in these columns that Major Vivek Gupta who was awarded Maha Vir Chakra for his brilliant bravery must have been awarded with param vir chakra because the pioneers who snatch first victory in battles often have to face the major brunt of battles and major Vivek Gupta did snatch first victory in kargil battle after which the Indian army kept its winning spree until end of battle .
It is a well known fact that even in army awards there are many lobblies that function but despite all these lobbies , the brave deeds of Martyr Major Vivek Gupta will shine even after thousands of years .
