| JU organises lecture on social exclusion, inclusive policy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 22 : The Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu organised a lecture on social exclusion, inclusive policy by Dr Paramjit Singh Judge, Professor and Head, Department of Sociology, and Coordinator of the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Prof Judge highlighted the ever deepening crisis in social, political, and economic spheres and the escalating tyranny of the traditionally dominant/hegemonic known as the majority, on the one hand, and the rise of consciousness among Dalits and Minorities on the question of their legitimate rights, the growing global attention on internal socio-politics on the other, call for a paradigmatic shift. He said that the social exclusion also reflects the prerequisite to have a mindset that needs a behavioural change in every one in the society to aggrandize the conditions of the marginalized groups from social isolation into the mainstream of social life. Prof Judge established that there was huge scope of the study of social exclusion and inclusive policy leading to better social development. The lecture was followed by interaction with the audience. Prof Judge has published fifteen books and sixty research papers in the areas of political sociology of social movements and excluded communities, Punjabi Diaspora and social theory. He was awarded Commonwealth Fellowship in 1987, Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Research Fellowship in 1991, and Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Improvement Fellowship in 1998. He was visiting Fellow at University of Jammu. Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar in his address said that the lectures on social relevance help to generate academic debates and discussions to fulfil its objectives by formulating the outcome of the academic fora in a non-partisan and plural manner within the framework of social justice. Earlier, Director Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy and Dean, Social Sciences Prof Jigar Mohammed in his address underlined the importance of organizing lectures on the issues of social relevance. Among others Prof Rekha Chaudhary, Dean Research Studies, Prof Suman Jamwal, Head, Dept of History, Prof Dipanker Sen Gupta, Head Dept of Economics, Prof D.R Chaudhary, Head, Dept of Political Science, Prof Baljeet Singh, Director, Dept of Strategic and Regional Studies, Prof Prakash Anthal, Prof Shyam Narayan, Dr. Munir Alam,Scholars, Students and many others were also present on the occasion |
