| Huge money being spent on stage managed protests, rallies | | Lust for Ministries ........? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 22: Even as the newly inducted ministers have started work in the respective departments and ministries they have been allotted, the dropped and ignored lot continues to fret and fume, organizing protests by proxy and even stage managing resignations of 'people', clamour loaded with threatening of damage to parties etc. The drama has been going on for the last few days at many places, with only those at the hind scene who have suddenly lost their ministries or other key posts they retained for four years. The height and limit to this enactment of drama is the harsh fact that money is being spent like water for each and every act, a pressure tactic for Chief Minister to reverse the decisions he took a day before the reshuffle. For the first time in four years perhaps, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah did a laudable job in effecting some changes by way of action against both 'non performers' as well as those against whom allegations of corruption had reached crescendo. This practical step has been seen in the form of massive changes in the departments held hitherto by the ministers as also in dropping some from the council of ministers. In any case and by any rule, it is the prerogative of Chief Minister which he demonstrated with wisdom and meticulous strokes. One cannot forget that it was the Chief Minister who would often express concern and at the same time his helpless situation in action against the corrupt practices of the ministers. This implies, he was much aware of what was happening in various departments and had in fact identified the 'culprits' but was only looking for some opportune time for taking drastic measures. However, what comes as disturbing, if not surprising scenario is the continuance of stage managed protests and even rallies, all to demonstrate the show of strength and political existence and convey thereby that by ignoring them those at the helm have committed some blunder. What is even more disappointing is that panches and sarapanches have emerged on the scene, who should have normally no business to talk in such decisions taken at the highest level. This only reflects and is illustrative of their lust and allurement with ministries or the posts they held so far. This also goes on to show that being ministers, that too in the cabinet is so lucrative and money spinning industry that they cannot and are not ready to part with it. Being in politics for such politicians is more a service, something which has only become a cliché in present scenario. It is only to grab and get the plum and money oriented ministries which can fetch monetary rewards. Had there been even small amount of service motive, the dropped lot would have taken such moves in positive stride as their political innings certainly do not stop here. One is prompted peep and ask if they can spend such huge amounts of money on such 'fake' protests, how much they might have earned while remaining ministers on a particular portfolio, beyond known sources of income on the post. |
