Avinash Azad Jammu, Jan 22: Amidst claims of cleansing the mess Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu, government another major malpractice has come to fore. Highly placed sources informed Early Times that huge irregularities, have been reported in the purchase of cotton bandage, Betadine (a mircobicidal solution) Gause cloth (made of silk a surgical dressing material) and bandage cloth (surgical dressing material). The samples of these sub-slandered items are being collected. They said, "As per purchase agreement between hospital and Supplier Company, a cotton bandage of 15 centimeters width and 5 meters length is to be supplied, but available bandage is about four meters in length and 13 centimeters in width, 12 meters less in a pack of dozen. Beatdine solution was also found substandard." Illuminating mircobicidal solution, they said, was earlier manufactured by a branded company Wockhardt and was being used under brand name Wokadine, but now a sub standard solution has been purchased. Sources claimed, "Owing to poor quality, use of sub standard bitadine in the operation theatres and other wards for surgical purpose has been avoided by the doctors." Revealing the huge malpractice in the state government run premier hospital of Jammu, sources further said, "Same surgical items were being purchased on different rates i.e Gause cloth at rupees 92 per meter, Bandage cloth at rupees 170 per meter. This has been going on for a long time." Sources added "Following complaints, on Tuesday a three member committee, headed by GMC&H Administrator, Reva Gupta, A D Planning and Personnel Officer scrutinized controversial surgical items in the hospital and also evaluated the length and width of bandage and quality of Betadine solution. Throughout the inspection, the committee established below standard material was supplied to hospital." It is pertinent to mention here that the government had said that the best way out to cleanse the mess in the department was not to remove the erring officials, but to make the steps stringent and get the system streamlined by them only. "At present It would not remove any defaulter, but force them to set the system straight" the government had said yesterday. Besides the govt flouted guarantee to upgrade the hospital at par with those of the national ones within three months. |
