Shinde darling of terrorists: RSS BJP, RSS promoting 'Hindu' terrorism, says HM
1/24/2013 12:09:28 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's January 20 Jaipur statement made in the "Chintan Shiver" of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) that the main opposition BJP and the RSS were holding "training camps" where "Hindu terrorism is promoted" has triggered a fierce debate. Addressing the AICC session in Jaipur, Shinde had said, "Reports have come during investigation that the BJP and the RSS conduct terror training camps to spread Hindu terrorism... Bombs were planted in the Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid and also a blast was carried out in Malegaon. The Government would have to take these things seriously and remain alert," he had said. Shinde got unqualified support from External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, MP and former Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer, to mention only a few. Each one of them endorsed the views of Shinde, thus establishing that what Shinde said was not an off-the-cuff remark.
Stung by what was construed by the BJP and the RSS as the most condemnable, irresponsible, unfounded and communally-motivated charge, both the organizations denounced the Home Minister and not only demanded his resignation, but also demanded an unconditional apology from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president and UP chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Both the organizations dubbed his remarks as "dangerous and divisive" and both accused the Home Minister of diverting the nation's attention from the real issues facing the country and giving a stick to Pakistan and terrorists like the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed to beat India mercilessly from right and left and weaken the nation's resolve to defeat the cult of terrorism as practiced by Islamabad and Pakistani-supported and protected terrorists like Saeed to dismember India and de-link Jammu and Kashmir from It. The RSS described Shinde as "darling of terrorists". "Today, Jamaat-ud-Dawa congratulated Shinde. Now, he has become the darling of real terrorists. It is Shinde who is helping our enemies by such statements. Now, even the LeT has welcomed his statement, I am told," RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav tweeted. The BJP has decided to hold demonstrations against the Home Minister and UPA Government to register their protest against them and educate the public opinion about what it described as the dangerous ramifications of the Home Minister's "irresponsible and unacceptable" statement, including the possibility of Pakistan and Hafiz Saeed and others of his ilk using the Home Minister's statement to counter the otherwise well-founded charge of India that Pakistan and Pakistan-based terrorists have been causing terror attacks in India.
The apprehension of the BJP that terrorist Saeed would exploit the Home Minister's statement to his own advantage as well as the advantage of Islamabad was well-founded. That it was well-founded could be seen from the jubilant Saeed said in Lahore a day after the Home Minister charged the BJP and the RSS with running terrorist training camps to promote "Hindu" terrorism. He said: "Indian organisations were 'involved in all kinds of terrorism in Pakistan.'
India always resorted to propaganda against Pakistani organisations but it now stood 'exposed.' 'India tried to involve us in the Mumbai attacks but after a passage of five years, nothing has been established against us in the courts.' Pakistan Government (must) take steps to get India declared 'a terrorist State' by the UN Security Council".
What Saeed said vindicated the BJP and RSS and established that Islamabad and its terror organizations would exploit the Home Minister's statement to the hilt. Indeed, the Home Minister has not done justice to the office he holds. On the contrary, he has undermined his own office and caused an irreparable damage to the country. He had every right to criticize the BJP and the RSS and their "ideology", but to dub them as terrorist organizations involved in promoting "Hindu" terrorism was too much. They cannot be termed as terrorist organizations by any yardstick. The Congress today did try to distance itself from the Union Home Minister's statement, but it was too little and too late. For, the damage has already been caused and the damage is irreparable.
