early times report JAMMU, Jan 23: Government MAM College today sailed into the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here. In the second round of pre-quarterfinal, MAM College outplayed Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura by two wickets. Batting first, GDC Paloura set a target of 118 runs for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, MAM chased in 19.3 overs with two wickets in hand. Amit Raj remained top scorer with 21-ball 30 runs, including five boundaries, while Aman Singh added 15 runs. Rohit Singh and Sangram Singh contributed 14 runs each to the team's total. From MAM College, Mohd Nissar and Abhimanyu Gupta took two wickets while Syad Zafat bagged three. Later, MAM attained the goal with the help of a boundary making 122 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 19.3 overs. Tushar Kumar made highest 26 runs, followed by Gunveer Singh and Syad Zafar, who added 16 runs each. Varinder Singh contributed 15 runs. Sahil was most successful bowler from GDC Paloura with three wickets. Sangram Singh and Manpreet Singh took two each. Meanwhile, another scheduled first round game, GDC Kathua awarded the match after JU Law School left the ground following an internal dispute. Batting first, after GDC Kathua won the toss and opted to field, Law School were struggling at 72 for two in 17 overs when a verbal dual took place in the batting team resulting into the batsmen left the ground and did not return. Finding the team not in a mood to resume the game, umpires awarded the match to GDC Kathua. FIXTURE: The GDC Billawar shall take on GDC Reasi in quarterfinals while PG Arts shall lock horns against GDC Kathua tomorrow. |
