Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Government released generous advertisements on the National Voters Day on January 25, wherein voters were congratulated by Governor NN Vohra, Chief Secretary Madhav Lal and Chief Electoral Officer Umang Narula, but this customary exercise mocked at many of those legitimate voters who have despite untiring efforts, failed to get their names included in the voter lists. While voters of J&K have accepted the greetings of the Governor and the top bureaucrats, the need to get the voter lists updated and corrected is of utmost importance. It is pertinent to mention here that the elections to the Urban Local Bodies which have been over due for more than two years now, could not be held because of failure of the administration to get the voter list revised. The delay in holding ULB elections has discredited Omar Government of undermining the democratic institutions of the State. Many legislators, besides general public have repeatedly complained of missing names, wrong addresses and several other commissions and omissions in the voter lists, but despite claims of mega exercise of summary revision of voter lists, the complains have continued to pour in. In Jammu and Kashmir, where name in the voter list is a pre requisite to get the all important permanent resident certificate, it is imperative for the election office to get the voter lists revised at the earliest so that the ULB elections can be held at the earliest. |
