If sources are to believed, in a significant development, Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din has directed the senior officials to establish his office in the premises of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) where he could meet the people (patients/attendants) at least twice a week. Highly placed sources in Medical Education Department revealed that "the directions from the Minister have come after his recent visit at GMC&H, Jammu. During the visit, Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din observed dilapidated condition of the GMC&H building especially the leakages and pathetic conditions urinals set up for patients." "During inspection," sources further shared, "Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din sought to know from the officials at helm of affairs about what steps have been taken so far to give face lift to the Hospital Building. He took the officials to task for their failure in keeping at least the urinals in good condition." "Patients' health will further deteriorate if they use such urinals," he pointed out further questioning, "why no white washing and other repairs have not been done in past four years despite having the availability of funds". "While chairing the meeting of the officials, he passed directions to set up his office in the Building premises so that he could meet the aggrieved persons directly," disclosed sources further adding that "the Minister cleared that he knows very well, every person especially the people belonging to far-flung areas and hilly belts of Jammu region are unable to reach Civil Secretariat (in his office chamber) with requests for their patients. So that is why, an office must be opened here as well, so that people could get easy relief." "Following directions," sources confirmed, "the work is on and the conference hall at GMC&H is being converted in office chamber of the Minister, where has wished to sit at least twice a week to listen to the problems being faced by the people. He, however, said the days have not been finalized yet." While officials concerned are tight-lipped over the issue, sources indicated that Minister for Medical Education's move is also being seen as monitoring cell on the doctors and para-medical staff against whom the complaints pertaining to their non-availability in the hospital are pouring in from several quarters. |
