JAMMU, Feb 10: Inspector General of Police, Dilbag Singh has been made president of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA) in its Annual General Meeting held here today. Dilbag Singh, who earlier acted as working president of the Association, has replaced former Director General Sports and retired DGP of Punjab Police, PS Gill to the top post. However, Gill, who could not make it to the meeting, has been elevated to the post of patron of the JKRA. Earlier holding the post of treasurer, Sudhir Kumar has been elected as general secretary while Inspector Sharat Chander Singh will be new treasurer. KS Jamwal has been made senior vice-president while Dr NS Bhatial, Sohan Lal and Sanam Soni shall act as vice-presidents. Pankaj Sharma has been appointed as joint secretary of the Association. The electing meeting held under the chairmanship of Director Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), JP Singh while general secretary of J&K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma acted as observer. In the meantime, the house authorized president of the Association to appoint eight members to the executive body. Earlier, Dr NS Bhatial read out detailed report of the activities, organized by the JKRA in the year 2011-12. He informed the members that JKRA won 13 medals, including eight gold, three silver and two bronze, in the various national level competition held under the banner of National Rifle Association of India. Divulging more details, he said that 20 marksmen of the state have qualified for the forthcoming nationals and National Games. In addition, Digvijay Singh, shortlisted for the mission Olympics by the Indian Army, and other shooters Rajinder Kumar and Sunil Kumar have got selected in the Army on the basis of the their performance at the national level. Another promising shooter, Vishal Choudary got selected in the Indian Navy. Speaking to the members, newly elected president, Dilbag Singh appreciated the work done by the previous body and assured that newly elected members will leave no stone unturned to promote game of shooting in the state. He also announced that JKRA will request the National Rifle Association of India to allot All India Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Inter-school Shooting Championship to J&K this year. He also urged the Director, DYSS, JP Singh to make the Nagrota shooting range functional so that Association could hold specialized coaching camp. President also desired that shooting clubs at the district level be made functional. Among others present were Sohan Lal, JP Singh, KS Jamwal, Col. AS Chandhoke, Col. Sukhbir Singh, Ashok Kumar, SS Sodhi, Parveen Mittal and SSP Vijay Kumar. |
