Three arrested in Kulgam
Curfew defied at Various Places in South Kashmir

Anantnag, Feb 10: Curfew clamped after the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, was defied at various places here in South Kashmir on Sunday during which several protesters got injured. Police while chasing the protesters have reportedly arrested several youth in south Kashmir's Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts.
In the evening hours after security forces started to move, protests and stone pelting incidents were observed in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.
Local sources over telephone informed this reporter that in the evening at Sarnal, Laizbal and Gulshanabad youths tried to pelt stones on the security forces and in response to stone pelting security forces disappeared the mob by opening firs in air. However they said that three youth were arrested at the site who tried to attack 'F' company of CRPF 96 battalion.
In Dooru Shahabad, hundreds of people held demonstrations against the execution of Afzal Guru involved in 2001 parliament attack however protesters disappeared peacefully.
Clashes broke out again in Bugam-Balsoo Kulgam on the second consecutive day; police used tear gas shells to disperse the mob and later arrested few persons including one Aaqib Manzoor who was on way from Yaripora to Kulgam.
Similar reports of defying curfew were also received from Shopian and Pulwama.
DIG South Kashmir, confirmed the reports of clashes and said, "by and large situation in the south remained normal but at Bougam Kulgam 70 to 80 young people tried to held demonstration who were dispersed by using 2 or 3 tear gas shells." Adding three persons were also arrested. He said that in Sarnal few kids tried to pelt stones on security forces against which CRPF fired in air in order to disperse them.
He said that overall situation in the southern part of Kashmir remained normal.
