2/13/2013 12:07:58 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Feb 12 : Rail service remained suspended for the fourth day today due to curfew restrictions in the Kashmir valley.
However, air traffic was normal and the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained open. The rail run between Qazigund in south Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir via Srinagar and Badgam remained suspended because of curfew restrictions imposed in the Kashmir valley since February 9 as authorities apprehended violence following the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in Delhi's Tihar jail. Official sources said railway stations wore a deserted look for the past three days in the absence of any passenger, who remained confined in their homes due to curfew.
Besides no passenger, there were also security concern to suspend the rail run, they said adding rail property worth crores of rupees was damaged during 2010 summer violence.
This time, railway authorities do not want to take any chance, they said.
However, air service remained unaffected by the curfew restrictions as air tickets were being treated as curfew passes.
