| NC controlling situation in Kashmir 'single' handedly..? | | Soz, Azad fail to land in Valley | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 12: Is National Conference (NC), heading the coalition Government here in the State, controlling post Afzal Guru hanging situation single handedly in Kashmir valley? Well, the right answer is with Congress party, which is playing a second fiddle role in the ruling coalition. While the curfew continued for the third consecutive day in Kashmir with no relaxation and additional deployment of para-military and police forces have been made in several parts of Kashmir valley, the Congress Ministers have "preferred" to stay back here in the winter capital to address the peoples' grievances. Headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the top NC leadership including the entire senior Ministers and Legislators especially of Kashmir valley are camping in the summer capital Srinagar and monitoring the situation and making untiring efforts to control the situation arising after the hanging of Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is learnt to have given different responsibilities to his party's Ministers to control the situation. "He is personally seeking the detailed reports of every nook and corner of Kashmir after every short interval," sources close to Chief Minister's Secretariat revealed to Early Times. On the other hand, top Congress leaders including Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Saif-ud-Din Soz are conspicuous of their absence. Besides, the senior Congress Ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and Nawang Rigzin Jora too have opted to stay back and move in Jammu region instead of helping their coalition partner in controlling the situation. Except Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Minister of State (independent rank) for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir none other Congress Minister visited Kashmir valley where protests and clashes with police and para-military forces have become order of the day in past few days. It is pertinent to mention here that during the previous year, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had series of scheduled visits in Jammu and Doda districts where he had to attend number of public meetings and review various ongoing developmental projects. However, following tragic incident of fire that broke in one of the most revered and oldest Sufi Shrines in Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad immediately cancelled all his scheduled programmes and flew directly to Srinagar from Doda district on state Plane and monitored the damaged control exercise along with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. However, in the prevailing situation, wherein Kashmir valley witnessed violent protests demonstrations amid curfew in past three days, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif-ud-Din Soz have unable to land in Valley to take stock of the situation. "It is up to the party high command to decide whom it thinks wise to send to Kashmir to help its major coalition partner," insiders in Congress expressed. |
