Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 12: The unruly attitude of Mini Buses (Matadors) in the winter capital of the Jammu and Kashmir state leads to chaotic traffic jams and road accidents in the city, even after the installation of Traffic Lights.
As the Jammu city is already overburdened with around 35000 more vehicles due to Darbar move, the most famous and affordable transport of the city (Matador) is becoming headache for the private vehicle owners due to their unorganized way of driving and overloading of the passengers. This attitude of these matador drivers leads to irritating traffic jams with long queues of vehicles and also raising the toll of the daily accidents in the city.
"It takes me 45 minutes to reach Gandhi Nagar from my residence in Rehari in my car due to this terrific traffic jams in the city." Sumit Gupta, Chartered Accountant (CA).
"The most irritating thing on the road is the Matadors, they suddenly stops their vehicle in the middle of the road to get a passengers." He added.
The limited number of traffic Policemen seems to be helpless in the present situation in the city, but the first priority of the traffic chaps seems to be the smooth movements of the VIP's only, common man seems to be waiting for their turn to get the way.
"I had started traveling on my bike and parked the car at my home just due to this heavy traffic, but it became difficult to travel even on the bike in this unorganized traffic." Ankush Khajuria, a banker.
Most of the matadors in the city can be seen overloaded with the passengers, especially in the peak hours like morning and evening, sometime even the school children can be seen standing on the door of the matadors in the morning, but no traffic policeman is bothered to stop and fine that matador.
"These matador operators are not bothered about the safety of the passengers; they are only bothered to fill their matador so that they can earn more." Sham lal Pandita, 55 a daily traveler of Matador.
"Government had fixed the stops for the matadors, but implementation is yet to be done properly," He added.
