| LC polls: Cadres dismayed at 'choice' of candidates | | Congress promoting crony culture in J&K…? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 12: Even as Congress has not yet disclosed the name of its candidates to be fielded for LC polls, the 'selection' list discussed and almost finalized by the leadership has upset the entire hierarchy - functionaries and leaders associated with the party for a long time. Dismayed and in a state of disarray at the choice of the candidates, the 'criterion' adopted in picking up some names is being seen as not only politically insignificant but the moves which can prove political suicide in the election year for the party. The names forwarded and the 'consideration' so adopted for the same by leaders in reckoning both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Saif-ud-Din is being viewed as party high command only promoting crony culture in the state instead of taking steps to build the organization. Sources said in the meeting held with J&K in charge Mohan Prakash on February 8 both Azad and Soz were asked to give names each from Kashmir and Jammu province who would be fielded against the seats getting vacant in March this year. Though some names were randomly discussed, sources said Azad has given indication of fielding PR Manhas, IGP whom he wants to be fielded against the reserved seat from Doda. He is also interested in fielding Manzoor Ganai from one seat in Kashmir, his close associate whom he appointed as advisor for a brief time during his tenure as CM . Azad, sources said has also expressed inclination of repeating sitting MLC Mohamad Amin Bhat whose term is expiring in March. However, Soz, on the other hand is believed to have projected the name of Gurumukh Singh , a senior leader of party from Jammu, sources said adding that he is keen on fielding Muzaffar Parray, senior functionary from Kashmir. However, it all depends on the strategy in terms of number of seats NC and Congress would finally decided to contest from Kashmir and Jammu province. It is the pattern and number of seats, that can determine candidates finally to be fielded by both Azad and Soz, sources said. However, at this point also there is disappointment among the cadres who are perturbed and disheartened at the heart of the fact that almost all these names either picked up by Azad or Soz are not politically significant nor have they made any significant contribution to the party. Even some of the names like Ganai, Amin Bhat and Parray bagged almost negligible votes , not to speak of showing any positive results for the party in terms of political consolidation. As for PR Manhas, believed to be Azad's choice, he is still in service on IGP's post but is believed to have given an indication on this front. |
