| Educationial institutions celebrate Basant Panchami | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 14: Gover-nment College of Educ-ation, Jammu celebrated Basant Panchami with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana. The Principal of the College Prof.(Dr.) Kaushal Samotra threw light on the importance of this day and stressed upon the fact that religious and moral values inculcated through such functions paves way for the holistic development of the individual.
A few students of the college also expressed their views on this occasion. At the end of the function sweets/Prasad was distributed among students of the college.
Vivekananda College of Education, Kathua also celebrated Basant Panchami with a lot of exuberance and fanfare.
The programme was divided in two phases. In the 1st phase there was Kite Flying competition while in the 2nd phase there was cultural programme.
The programme started with welcome song. Other items of the programme were Himachali dance, duet dance, poem recitation and speeches.
Speaking on the occcasion, Dr. Anju Sharma said that the day of Basant Panchami is considered auspicious and is celebrated on the Panchami of Magh Masa, Shukla Paksha which is considered as the arrival of spring season.
In his message Dr. Sudarshan Kumar Gupta congratulated the staff and students and threw light on the significance of celebrating this festival.
He said that'On arrival of Basant Panchami the chill of winter season is on its departure. People feel new energy flowing in themselves. A new zeal of life can be seen coming in all living creatures.
