| Religious Scholar sees big role for SRS | | Forget VD cards, play Hanuman | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: After failing to play Hanuman, Shri Ram Sena (SRS) has hit a soft target to stay in news. The activists of the Sena torched a heap of Valentine cards outside Press Club here as part of their `crusade' against vulgarity and licentiousness. The Sena has evoked criticism for its silence on the Rath CD and molestation of a Jammu University student in police lock up. Pertinent to mention, the former SSP of Jammu was found guilty of violating the code of conduct by a magistrate. While interrogating an accused in Amandeep murder case, the SSP used abusive language against women. Shockingly the incident was ignored by the social and political circles. Similarly the molestation of the University student went un-noticed. Interestingly, the Sena chief, Rajiv Mahajan boasts of great Indian culture. Yes, Indian culture is great. It stands for respect and protection of women. Lord Rama waged a war against evil forces to protect the honour and dignity of a woman who happened to be his wife. Hanuman played a significant role in this war which eventually ended with the end of evil forces. A noted religious scholar said the Sena, therefore, has to act accordingly. "Harassing shopkeepers in the name of protecting culture makes no sense. Of course, the Sena cannot play Rama but it can at least try to play Hanuman", he said. |
