| Curfew, clashes continue in South Kashmir | | | Early Times Report ANANTNAG, Feb 14: Even as curfew restrictions that were imposed after the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru continued on sixth consecutive day, minor clashes broke out in South Kashmir's Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag districts. Protesters resorted to heavy stone pelting in South Kashmir's Pulwama district during the evening hours when security forces were about to move towards their base camps. Number of youths pelted stones on the security forces that were later chased by the forces who resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the agitating crowd. Clashes continued nearly for one and a half hour; however, no report of injury was reported. Meanwhile, stone pelting was also reported in Shopian and Anantnag townships. Eyewitness said that youth took to streets in the evening when the security forces were moving towards their camps. Security forces used tear gas shells to disperse the youth. In Anantnag, stone pelting incidents took place in Kadipora, Sherpora, Malaknag and Janglat Mandi. On the 6th day, no relaxation in curfew was extended to Anantnag residents who are currently facing immense problems due to the shortage of essentials like vegetables, milk and rice. Administration is claiming that they relaxed curfew in Mattan, Achabal and other rural areas, however, it is worth to mention here that curfew was not clamped in those areas from the day one. |
