Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 14: Music Department of Govern-ment of College for Wo-men (GCW) Gandhi Nagar today celebrated Basant Panchami. On this occasion Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College was the Chief Guest. It began with lighting of the lamp followed by invoking the blessings of goddess Saraswati. Head, Department of Music Prof. Renu Sehgal apprised the students with the importance of this day which announced the herald of intoxicating months of mists, flower and fragrance. She said that this day is of great importance for the Music students, as goddess Saraswati bestows upon them auspiciousness and prosperity. People wear yellow clothes to mark its celebration. P.G students of the College mesmerized the audience with Raga Lalit. Raga Bhopali and Raga Kafi on Sitar were also played by the student sitarist of the College. Performances were made by Akashpriya, Sujata, Nazia, Bhavana, Taranjeet, Harmeet and Diksha. They were accompanied on the tabla by Prabjot Singh and Bimla Devi. The programme ended by the recitation of Bhajan followed by vote of thanks by Prof. Seema Sharma. |
