Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb17; Though the curfew has been lifted from the valley completely and the situation was limping towards normalcy, the decision to resume rail services from North Kashmir to South Kashmir Kashmir has not been taken yet. Though some reports suggest that authorities have taken a decision to resume the rail service by Monday, however, IGP Railways Kamal Saini told Early Times that they are assessing the situation and a decision to this effect will be taken soon. "It can be tomorrow even, we are assessing the situation" Kamal said. To another question, Kamal said that the track was in tact and no damage was caused to it, however, the train was suspended keeping in view the restricted movement of the people during curfews. Pertinently Kashmir rail service remained suspended for the ninth day on Sunday. The service was suspended due to imposition of curfew in the Valley as a precautionary measure in the wake of execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in Delhi's Tihar jail on February 9. Though a meeting was reportedly held yesterday but no decision was taken on resumption of the service. Some reports suggest that since the hard-liner separatist leader Sayed Ali Geelani has extended the strike call till today to protest Guru's execution, the rail service may be resumed tomorrow. Meanwhile the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was open and air traffic was also normal. |
