| Guru hanging haunts JKPCC | | As NC, PDP cry hoarse, Congress remains mum | | early times report Jammu, Feb 17 : While the National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have tried to secure their respective vote banks in Kashmir by crying hoarse over Guru hanging, the JKPCC finds itself with its back to the wall. No statement on the hanging has come from Congress leaders. The Congress Ministers have rendered no help to the Chief Minister who has been camping in Srinagar since Guru was hanged, to maintain law and order. Although Omar was apprised of the decision of the centre regarding hanging Guru yet he raised questions ranging from challenging the legality of the execution to accusing New Delhi of keeping Guru's family unaware of the decision. Omar's reaction has been perceived as a desperate attempt to secure his vote bank. Similarly the PDP has been making a lot of noise over the execution. It has stated that had it been in power it would not have allowed Guru's execution. The Congress leaders on the other hand find themselves in a very difficult situation. It cannot go against the government decision and it cannot remain mum. If it opposes the hanging, it may lose its vote bank in Jammu and if it remains silent, it is certain to lose its supporters in Kashmir. A week has passed since Guru was hanged and the Congress has not issued even a single statement. The JKPCC president, Saif-ud-Din Soz also has refused to comment. It has been reliably learnt that a memorandum seeking Guru's mortal remains has been sent to the Congress high command to do some damage control. However, the Congress leaders have maintained meaningful silence even on this issue. Minister of Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din who is known for making bold statements refused to comment. Similarly, the newly inducted tourism minister G A Mir's comments give the Congress mindset. "I cannot comment on the sensitive issue. Let Soz do the talking. He is the head and he alone can talk", he said.
