Pvt schools must shoulder social responsibility, admit poor, underprivileged children: Tara Chand

UDHAMPUR, Feb 17: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand inaugurated Annual Day cum sports meet of K C Gurukul Public School at village Jakhar in Udhampur today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister laid stress on providing quality education to the students and appreciated the role played by private institutions in universalizing school education in the state. He said that private educational institutions should share their noble and social responsibilities in providing quality education to the students belonging to weaker and deprived sections of the society so that they could also compete with their counterparts in this fast changing world of competition.
"We call upon premier education institutions operating in the state to come forward in adopting underprivileged, handicapped and BPL family children and give such children an opportunity for excelling in life," he exhorted.
While referring to the recent accident in a school in Jammu, the Deputy Chief Minister condoled the sad demise of the student and exhorted upon the school managements to be more vigilant for the security and safety of the school children.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that education sector is achieving new heights in its excellence in the state, adding that private educational institutions have their major role in this regard. "Merely bookish knowledge does not cater the requirement of the students,"
He observed and enjoined upon the teaching fraternity for imparting quality education based on moral values to their students so that they could become responsible citizens. Later, Tara Chand presented trophies, medals, and certificates among the students who excelled in the co-curricular activities.
Earlier, the students presented sport and cultural activities which were highly appreciated by the audience.
Legislator Krishan Chander Bhagat, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur- Reasi Range Mr. Jagjit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, P. K. Pole, Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani, Director Academics, KC Gurukul Public School, Mrs Vijay Puri, besides senior members of the KC Gurukul Educational Society, prominent citizens, teachers, parents and students were present on the occasion.
